Jody acted as Commander of the Coast Guard Pacific Area from July 2009 to May 2010, overseeing operations of units performing missions across over 73 million square miles throughout the Pacific Basin to the Far East. In addition to security at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach -- the busiest ports in the country she also had tactical responsibility for the country's anti-drug patrols at sea. She now serves on Gov. Jerry Brown's newly created Governor's Military Council. The council is tasked with promoting California's defense industry and military bases in a major effort to protect and even expand such jobs amid federal cutbacks.
