Kara Spears Hultgreen

First female naval carrier-based fighter pilot.

Kara was the first female fighter pilot killed after the Department of Defense Risk Rule was rescinded. Her F-14 Tomcat crashed while making a landing on an aircraft carrier off the coast of California.  She is buried in Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery and her flight jacket, helmet and uniforms were donated to the Smithsonian Institution.
